Blindness and visual impairment

Stem cell therapy may offer hope for a cure

Blindness deprives a person of one of their main senses. The loss of vision can be caused, for example, by damage to the cornea or by age-related macular degeneration (AMD). In patients with AMD, damage to the retina impairs visual acuity. Up to now, most of the reasons for blindness have barely been treatable, or not at all. But in some cases, stem cell therapy has already been successful.
